There are several factors working against Chix Shack that will prevent many people from experiencing the wonderful food coming out of this quirky little spot on 109 Street—the first being the location.

The little Thai eatery is the second restaurant by the same people who own Sawaddee in Sherwood Park. It is tucked between two sports bars (Hudson’s and the Pint) at the base of the Capital Condominiums just north of Jasper Ave. Paid street parking during the day may deter some people, but free parking is available after 6 p.m., and the fact that it’s set back from the street means a lot of people won’t see it or bother to stop. That’s a shame, because the food here is seriously good.

The interior is confusing and doesn’t reflect anything of Thailand. There’s really no description for the style other than ‘spaghetti Western casual’. The food though is most certainly Thai, and more to the point, Thai street food, so don’t let the barnwood, shutters, and faux brick facade throw you. This place deserves your patronage.

Plus, both Birdie and Bunny (servers at Sawaddee) work here on alternate days, so if you go—when you go—please say hi to them from me.
