The recent opening of Jurassic Forest, located 15 minutes north of Edmonton off of Highway 28A and Township Road 564, has given families something fun to do year-round. We went on a Saturday and the place was packed.

There’s a lack of signage though, so watch carefully for the entrance right at the Goose Hummock Golf course by Gibbons. A large parking lot easily accomodated the scores of vehicles and the walk up along the imposing wooden fence created a sense of anticipation of what was to come.

The park is sure to be a hit with anyone who has an interest in things that roamed the earth long before us.

Admission for a family (2 adults, 2 kids) is $40 but you can spend more on souvenirs (a gift shop sells the requisite t-shirts and related paraphernalia) and snacks (hotdogs, ice cream, pop, candy) from a little shack that will definitely need to be improved upon to handle the throngs of people in need of refreshments.
If you love your pet, please leave it at home!
There are two trails to explore where approximately 40 life-size animatronic dinosaurs move and roar when the motion sensor is triggered.
The facility is very well done and worth the trip out, especially if you have youngsters in the 4 to 10 year old range. According to one staff member, there are plans to expand the park depending on the success of this first stage.
It took us an hour to walk along the pathways but we didn’t spend as much time there as we would have liked only because it was so busy and we wanted to keep the lines moving. You can easily spend a couple of hours especially if you have kids that want to play in the sandpits and dinosaur themed play area.

Jurassic Forest is a great place to explore, and one final word of advice…

…always, always…stay on the path.
