I could hear the wind howling from 6 a.m. on and I worried about the Stratford group who, in a few hours, would be loading up in qamituks again to head out on the land in search of caribou. I had opted to take the day and stay in to catch up on some writing and by the way that wind was screaming, I couldn’t have picked a better day.

But by 3 p.m. they returned to town, a little cold, a little tired, but thrilled with the adventure of hunting caribou on the land.
Some were more tired than others.

The three caribou that were caught today will be cooked on Saturday when the the people of Cambridge Bay celebrate new friendships and bid farewell to the Stratford gang at a community feast.

Tonight though, the Stratford students put on a feast for the host community with a menu featuring Arctic Char Ceviche, goat cheese filled phyllo pastry, pork loin with roasted carrots and potato pancakes, and a Saskatoon berry dessert. Forty people purchased tickets to the event to help raise money for the Kiilinik students’ trip to Stratford, Ontario next month.
