I’ve driven by this property a thousand times and can kick myself now for never stopping in. Thanks to Liane Faulder’s write up in the Journal about the Tomato Fare which ran today from 4 to 7 pm at Country Road Greenhouses (just outside of Sherwood Park), I will pass by no longer; I plan to become a regular customer.
The event, sponsored by the Edmonton Regional Tourism Group and initiated by Carol Maier, the owner of Country Road Greenhouses, was a sell-out. Those of us lucky enough to partake, filled our ears, eyes and bellies with homegrown goodness. What a treat.
We knew we were in for good stuff when we saw the Culina car in the parking lot, and there at the tent was the Culina team, heads down, chopping and plating as they put together plates of Spring Creek Ranch beef, ricotta and tomatoes. Delish.
Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm offered zucchini salad, fingerling potatoes with dill, and the most amazing berry shortcake I’ve had in eons.
Inside the greenhouses, local artisans displayed and sold jewelry, crafts and knitted goods, and I was thrilled to see Jacqueline Jacek there with her jaw dropping
Jacek chocolates.
If you missed sampling these edible art pieces, you can find them at Black and Bold (10826 124 Street Edmonton) or Cafe Haven (9 Sioux Road) in Sherwood Park. They make wonderful gifts…that is, if you can give them up; you might be tempted to keep them to yourself.
Tomatoes, tomatoes, everywhere…it was lycopene overload. That’s never a bad thing, right?
For those poor souls who missed out, take a look at the menu and make sure next year you mark down this event on your list of things to do. Eat local, and lots of it.
That’s very interesting! Thanks for sharing!
How did you hear of this… next time give us all a heads up – it sounds fantastic!
🙂
Great pics and the review is so good I am kicking myself for not knowing about it.

Valerie…I read about this in the Journal the day of the event. I too had heard nothing about the Tomato Fare prior to Liane’s article that day but we’d been out of town for a bit and out of the loop I guess(?). Mark your calendar for next year though because I know you’ll love it.
