Vegas, Baby!

We’ve been to Las Vegas seven times which gives you some idea of how much we love the place. And every time we go there, we discover something new. That might be because the hotels are constantly changing and reinventing themselves in order to stay alive.
A bit of an upgrade landed us in a high roller’s penthouse suite in the palace towers at Caesar’s Palace. The best part? I got my very own bathroom, something I’ve dreamed about for years (sorry darling, no offense but…). The actual room was bigger than most condos I’ve been in so it was definitely a sweet experience. Worth the $650/night? Probably not, even though the rooms were going for a song during this slow period…you never spend that much time in your room anyways.

The weather in late November was perfect – mid 70s and a bit of a breeze. We consumed alot of sushi on this trip, only because we found ourselves near Japanese places at our hungriest times of day. Gone is the Stage Deli in the Forum at Caesars, but the Mirage next door now sports a Carnegie Deli. We tried eating there but after sitting at our table for 10 minutes without so much as a glance from anyone resembling wait staff, we left for greener pastures.

Highlight of the trip: meeting Gordie Howe and talking with him for a while. Great guy; very sweet and still quick with the comebacks. Mr. Hockey still has it! Best show: Wayne Brady. Funny as hell, amazingly talented, great dance moves & the dude can sing…definitely worth the money.
Best meal: Koi at Planet Hollywood – creative menu and definitely some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. The Creamy Rock Shrimp Tempura and the Dragon Roll still make my mouth water. Ask for Jordan to serve you – he had great recommendations and Nathan, the sake master, was brilliant in his sake knowledge.

We’re already looking forward to our next trip to Vegas. According to alot of people we talked to, the economic crisis is definitely taking its toll on Vegas which means good deals for you and I.

My Vegas tips: 1) forget fashion and wear comfortable shoes 2) sign up for player’s rewards cards at the casinos and concentrate your play at one or two hotel groups 3) charge everything you can to your room and redeem your player points to pay for them at the end of your stay 4) Use the monorail to get around 5) tip your servers in the casinos, they’ll love you for it and, 6) never hit on 14.
